A useful report helps someone make a decision. Start with that decision, then work backward to the measures, sources and checks needed to support it. Adding more charts or generated commentary does not fix unclear definitions.

Define the question

Identify the report’s audience, the decision it informs and how often it is needed. Distinguish a count of activities from a business outcome. Record what the measure includes, excludes and cannot explain.

Check the data before combining it

An AI-assisted step might draft a summary of validated figures or organize comments for review. Keep calculations tied to a reliable method and check the explanation against the underlying data. A fluent summary can still misread a trend or imply a cause the data does not establish.

Build a maintainable reporting process

Assign ownership for source changes, refresh failures and definition updates. Make it clear when a report was last checked. If a source becomes unavailable, the process should surface the problem rather than quietly presenting stale figures as current.

Evaluate usefulness

Review calculation accuracy, preparation and correction effort, reliability and whether the intended reader can use the report. The goal is a clearer decision process, not a promised revenue increase or a universal accuracy percentage.
